One of the easiest primula to grow! Primula vulgaris is a hardy perennial plant and it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit! Plants will gently form colonies if they are allowed to self seed. The English Primrose comes in a multitude of lovely colors, but this one of my absolute favorites. They are a lovely shade of blue, & their yellow throats really make the colors pop. With large 1 1/2" flowers, Primrose can add a lot of great color to a shady spot. In cooler areas, Primrose can be planted in areas with more sun. They are a popular selection for cottage gardens, borders, & beds.

They are utilized in rock gardens, & can even be naturalized. This type of primrose grows well in containers & they are a very popular houseplant. Flowering begins in early spring & can last in to summer with their long bloom time. The flowers are fragrant and attract bees, butterflies, and birds.

GERMINATION
Obtain a planting container that has holes in the bottom for excess water to drain. Place the seeds on the surface of your growing medium, and water. Place your container in a cold area (but not freezing, perhaps a refrigerator) for 4-6 weeks. Once the cold period is completed, place the container at room temperature for them to germinate. Be sure to keep the soil moist during this entire germination period. Seedlings will sprout a few weeks, or occasionally several months, after the warming period.
Alternatively, these seeds can also be planted outdoors in fall, winter, or early spring, while temperatures are still cold (but ground is workable) to germinate naturally in spring. Be sure to mark the area where you planted them, and that the soil is consistently moist.
